The Smears folder contains reports to support the management of cervical screening activity for QOF. These reports help practices monitor eligible patients, identify outstanding screening, and ensure accurate coding for achievement.
Registers
The register reports provide a summary of the number of female patients in the smear target age range. These reports are for informational purposes only and support visibility of current register sizes.
Outstanding
These reports identify patients with outstanding cervical screenings. Practices should encourage clinicians to use the Ardens Cervical Screening template to record activity of the screening.
Data Quality
These reports are used to identify patients who may have had a smear or hysterectomy recorded; however, the code is not a QOF-acceptable code.
Achieved
The Achieved reports can be used to monitor smears done in the target timeframes.

Why is a patient aged 64 appearing in the Cervical Screening QOF search?
QOF looks for a recorded cervical screening test within the last 5 years and 6 months. This means some patients aged 64 may still appear in the search if they do not have a screening result within that timeframe. Although these patients may not be due another routine invitation under the NHS Cervical Screening Programme, eligibility for further screening depends on their previous screening history. The QOF search is based solely on the QOF reporting rules and does not determine whether a patient should be recalled for screening.
Which template should clinicians use?
Clinicians should use the Ardens Cervical Screening template to record cervical screening activity.
Why might a patient appear in Data Quality?
A patient may appear if a smear or hysterectomy has been recorded using a code that is not QOF-acceptable.
