Cost-Effective Prescribing

ℹ️ Introduction

This article explains how to use Ardens Manager to identify opportunities for cost-effective prescribing. By the end of this article, you will be able to review prescribing variation, identify potential savings, and support more efficient use of resources.

Background

Ensuring prescribing is cost-effective is essential to maximise NHS resources while maintaining high-quality patient care.

Variation in prescribing can occur due to:

  • Differences in medication choice

  • Use of branded versus generic drugs

  • Prescribing habits across clinicians or practices

Identifying and addressing variation supports:

  • More consistent prescribing

  • Improved use of NHS resources

  • Alignment with local and national guidance

How Ardens Can Help

The dashboard allows you to:

  • Identify variation in prescribing

  • Highlight switching opportunities

  • Compare prescribing across organisations

  • Monitor trends over time

  • This will update the dashboard view, including demographics and patient lists

Use this to:

  • Focus reviews on specific drug groups or dosages
